Background:
Dr. Collins assisted through the development approval process for the Sarasota Bayside
redevelopment project. The project is located on 14-acres located on US 41 in downtown
Sarasota, Florida and is considered by many to be the most significant redevelopment
project in the history of Sarasota. The project included an extensive Traffic Impact
Analysis and compared future conditions with incorporating the proposed redevelopment.
Existing traffic volume to identify the total traffic conditions was undertaken.
Intersection geometries were developed using methodologies contained in the most recent
edition of the Highway Capacity Manual, AIA Context Sensitive Design, The City's
Engineering Design Criteria Manual (EDCM) and the Florida DOT design standards.
Recommendations were made related to multi-modal design and operations (pedestrian,
bicycle, transit and auto vehicles), roadway connectivity, traffic operations, driveway
access spacing, design speed and roadway alignment.
