North Blvd. & Cass Street

Intersection Traffic Signal Design

Client:

The City of Tampa – Department of Public Works

Background:

Dr. Collins was responsible for the design plans of a full traffic signal replacement located at the intersection of North Boulevard & Cass Street in the City of Tampa, Florida. The traffic signal design was prepared in accordance with both the City of Tampa design standards and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) design standards. This traffic signal replacement project is part of the City's ongoing effort to upgrade their existing intersections which have been using outdated traffic signal equipment. This particular intersection required additional effort due to its immediate proximity to an active CSX railroad line and limited public right-of-way. Video detection for all approaches and railroad preemption was provided which helps provide the most efficient traffic signal timing possible based on real-time traffic conditions.
