City of Fort Myers

1st Street and 2nd Street Two-Way Conversion

Client:

City of Fort Myers, FL

Background:

As part of the Downtown Redevelopment Plan, the City of Fort Myers negotiated with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to acquire First Street and Second Street roadways for the purpose of converting these streets from a one-way pair (formerly SR 80) to two-way streets. The objective is to provide better access, better streetscapes, and to reduce speeding through the neighborhoods. The City is proposing a roadway conversion project that will encompass different design and construction phases.

ADEAS-Q is serving as the City’s Consultant for all phases of the Design Services for Conversion of First Street and Second Street from One-way Streets to Two-way Streets project. Phase I consists of interim design improvements that can be quickly built without needing to move curb lines or underground drainage facilities. Ultimately, these improvements will provide improved accessibility via better multi-modal connections, improved urban design facilities, and a reduced vehicle target speed to 30 mph.
